QUALITY OF LIFE

In 2009, the Village Board created an ad-hoc Quality of Life Committee as an outgrowth of three ventures the Village engaged in throughout 2008 - the Third Places & Livable Communities Study, the completion of the first class of the Future Weston Academy and the 2008 Board Retreat presentation by Molly Folly of Next Generation Consulting. The purpose of the Ad Hoc Quality of Life Committee was to examine the seven key quality of life indicators for the next generation as detailed in the book Live First, Work Second by Rebecca Ryan. These indicators are: vitality, earning, learning, social capital, cost of lifestyle, "after hours", and "around town." In addition, the committee took a look at current programs employed by the Village such as special events and public safety and reviewed their impact on public safety. The process took a little over 8 months of investigation and the result was the Quality of Life Goals report that was delivered to the Village Board at their annual retreat in the Fall of 2009. This report will be used by the Village Board, Committees and staff to prepare for the next generation of Weston residents.
